S & S News: The Week in Highlights shares a collection of current articles, reports and stories that are newsworthy in the realm of sustainability, social responsibility and beyond. Feature promise: Absolutely no fake news.

Boris Johnson and Fashion Month aside, the week in highlights is jam packed with news on the sustainability front.

The impact of electric on climate is revealed as sulfur hexafluoride (SF6) leaks in the UK & EU were the equivalent of putting an extra 1.3 million cars on the road.

In Japan, Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant is soon to dump radioactive water (1ml+tonnes) following lack of storage space.
On the French front, climate activists are arrested for stealing portraits of Macron.

In the UK it is no surprise, Brexit is stalling the country from acting on the climate crisis whilst protests on Heathrow runway and drone disruptions continue. Scotland gets sustainable as Glasgow is set to host the COP26 Summit in 2020.

Meanwhile, M & S raise the bar with their urban agriculture initiative which sees the company trial growing herbs in-store through vertical farming. Sainsbury’s responds to consumer demands by commitments to halve plastic by 2025 and it is reported by Forbes that over 50% millennials are trying to incorporate plant-based meals into their diet. This comes at a time when reports show the 60 largest food protein companies failing to address their environmental impact.

Whilst the Queen is busy dealing with Boris’s propagation, Prince Charles ventures into sustainable fashion to produce a clothing collab with nettles from his garden! Meghan launches her clothing line to support Smart Works. For each item sold, one item will be donated to the charity that helps women entering the workplace with resources such as interview training or and clothing for the office.

Elsewhere in Fashion, Uniqlo demonstrations in Milan take place as the company owes workers in Indonesia over $5.5 million in wages and Gucci goes carbon neutral.
