After a quick holiday, S & S is back with this week’s news. Whilst Europe has experienced 500 year summers in 15 years, governments and firms in 28 countries sued over climate crisis with over 1,300 legal actions over global heating. Shell boss Ben Van Beurden sees net zero as the only way forward and calls for industry collaboration for faster decarbonisation to support the Paris Agreement. On the LSE, the FTSE Russell index reclassifies energy firms as either ‘renewable’ or ‘non-renewable’ as pressure increases on fossil fuel sector to decarbonise.

In sport, Wimbledon ditches plastic tennis racket covers and football club Forest Green Rovers showcase new kit made from 50% bamboo.

In fashion, Uniqlo announces ambitions to cut single use plastics by 85% by the end of 2020 and Prada launches its renylon project set to phase out virgin nylon by 2021. Their endeavour will see % of the collection go to UNESCO educational activities that focus on the circular economy. Finally in beauty, Estée Lauder Companies partners With the Humane Society to End Global Animal Testing.
