Redesigning Society With The Circular Fashion Summit

The Circular Fashion Summit exists to accelerate and encourage systems change in the fashion industry. At this prestigious event, industry leaders will join forces to discuss key themes within the sector including; inclusivity by design, the role of digital twins, as well as the power of the Internet of Things (IoT) and circularity.

Forever fascinated by the nexus of fashion, technology and sustainability, I am incredibly humbled to share that I will be joining the Circular Fashion Summit team as a catalyst to raise awareness on the important issues.

The Circular Fashion Summit will take place in virtual reality (VR) during Paris Fashion Week in December 2021. This year’s edition of the CFS focuses on redesigning society for a sustainable future.

The goals of the event:

To gather leaders of change from design, technology, and sustainability to share knowledge and importantly, to ignite immediate action on three measurable goals:

  • SDG #12 Responsible consumption and production
  • SDG #9 Industry innovation and infrastructure
  • SDG #10 Reduced Inequalities

The event puts forward the notion that there is no circular economy for fashion without digitization. Meaningful change requires holding all of fashion’s stakeholders to account on these global goals and prompting tangible commitments, not more voluntary pledges.

What to expect:

The summit is a celebration of impactful design, evolutionary partnerships, and opportunities for the fashion industry to transition to a digitized circular economy. It is a space to implement real solutions and make positive change happen, collectively.

Take a look at this article on the 4 key takeaways from last year’s summit which was attended by companies including Hermes, Chanel and Balenciaga.

Kering joins CFS as an innovation partner

CFS has an acclaimed roster of partners from within the industry. Most recently, luxury leader Kering Group have joined the CFS as an Innovation Partner. At the event’s innovation hub, the group will be showcasing a selection of their start-ups from their in-house incubator that are working on new and circular sustainable materials. The need to develop new garments in line with disruptive innovations that use biotechnology and circular economy principles saw the luxury conglomerate open its Materials Innovation Lab back in Italy in 2013.

Marie-Claire Daveu, Kering Chief Sustainability and Institutional Affairs Officer notes that “Kering is aiming at driving change within the fashion industry through innovation, and part of our sustainability roadmap is focused on this challenge. As we are thriving to innovate in a 360° approach, we have launched our ‘Circularity Ambition’ earlier this year, with the ambition to transform our business model deeply.”

Daveau added that “Collaborating with groundbreaking new initiatives, such as the Circular Fashion Summit, help us sharing our best practices as well as sparking our imagination and inspiring us on the long run reaching out our 2025 target.”

The origins of CFS:

CFS is the brainchild of Lablaco, a universal platform that connects all stakeholders to accelerate digitization and transition towards a multi-dimensional circular economy for fashion.

Founded by pioneers Lorenzo Albrighi and ShihYun Kuo, Lablaco is driving digitization of the fashion industry in order to redefine the relationships between suppliers, designers, brands, retailers, content creators, and individual customers through transparency and circularity.
